On one of my Sunday morning perambulations around Brixton market I spotted this sign.  It’s probably been hanging on the wall as long as I’ve been here, i.e. probably too long, but still working.  I like the flexibility of spelling on the market signs, and this one’s a beauty.
Squid becomes ‘Squit’, Scallops are ‘Skalap’, Lobster is ‘Labster’ and Steak is ‘Stak.’  Spoken out loud, they have the sound of the fish stalls in Norwich market, spoken in my original Norfolk dialect.
However, ‘Ring Squit’ also listed here, should never be asked for, and is surely not worth £4.99.
